The Waverley at Dunkirk
- by Webmaster

To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the evacuation of Dunkirk a reproduction of the paddle box crest of the first 'Waverley' has been created for the station in plant material by Ian Welsh. The steamer was requisitioned for service during the last war, and took part in the evacuation in 1940. Sadly she attracted the attention of German bombers, and was sunk during the action. Among the survivors was her captain, John Cameron, who went on to become captain of the second 'Waverley', which still sails on the Clyde today.

On Monday, 9th August, at 11.00 a.m. the Friends of Wemyss Bay Station shall mark the occasion by displaying the floral crest on the walkway leading down
to the pier. We shall be joined by the late Captain John Cameron's widow, Jean, and Duncan MacNeil, MSP, among others.

See The Friends of Wemyss Bay Station website for more information.

Charity Begins at the Original Factory Shop
- by Webmaster

The Original Factory Shop on Montague Street are aiming to make a difference to the community by choosing one local cause to be its charity partner for 2010. Store manager, Roger Hamilton, says:

“The Original Factory Shop works hard at being part of local life and is always looking at ways it can put something back into the community.

“We’ve decided to support just one for 2010 so that we can really make a big difference to them. As we’re new to the town, we’re asking for nominations from anyone in Rothesay who needs a helping hand, whether it’s a mothers and toddlers group, a local children’s football team or a support group of whatever kind.”

Anyone wishing to nominate their organisation simply has to drop a letter off at the store by Monday 24th May saying why they think that they should be The Original Factory Shop’s charity partner in Rothesay.

A programme of fundraising activity is planned by colleagues at the store throughout 2010, with a minimum target of £500.00 looking to be raised for the chosen charity.
